Although 9 out of 10 teenagers want a good marriage and family life, they are skeptical about marriage due to persistent negative messages in today's media culture and a lack of healthy marriage models in society. Restoring the institution of marriage begins by intentionally teaching the benefits of marriage to teens.
"When men and women fail to form stable marriages, the first result is a vast expansion of government attempts to cope with the terrible social needs that result. There is scarcely a dollar that the state and federal government spends on social programs that is not driven, in large part, by family fragmentation: crime, poverty, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, school failure, mental and physical health problems," according to research done by Maggie Gallagher.
By intentionally teaching teenagers about the benefits of marriage, we are equipping them to succeed in life. As research shows, married people are happier, healthier, and better-off financially.
