How Pregnancy Centers Can Teach Abstinence
Teaching abstinence takes on many shapes and varieties. One way to teach abstinence is through the ideal environment of one-on-one opportunities at pregnancy care centers. Many pregnancy care centers teach abstinence programs in local schools as well as inside their centers in the comfort of a confidential counseling room.
Teaching abstinence with pregnancy center clients offers men and women a thorough look at how to prevent the inherent anxiety surrounding an unplanned pregnancy. Additionally, when pregnancy centers teach abstinence, clients can avoid the undesirable effects of sexually transmitted diseases and infections. In both cases, the client may be referred to as a “negative test client,” meaning the client is not pregnant or infected with a sexually transmitted disease – their tests were negative. While the client may feel relieved, if they continue the same pattern of behavior, they should not expect that they will always have a negative test.
The deep breath and instinctive wipe of the brow is much more than relief – it is opportunity. The perfect opportunity for an objective, honest, intervening third party to teach abstinence as the only alternative to eliminate the physical, social, mental, spiritual and emotional consequences of sex outside of marriage. The fact remains that teaching abstinence provides renewed hope for the client. Their choices will dictate their future and it is important that they understand they can start over again because it is never too late to choose abstinence.
